Jungle Baby

Let me take you on a journey through the creative process of designing a jungle-themed nursery for our little one. From inspiration to execution, every step was filled with excitement, planning, and a touch of magic!

The seed of inspiration for the nursery design was planted during our visits to Peru. Surrounded by lush greenery, exotic animals, and vibrant colors, I was captivated by the sense of adventure and wonder. It’s also home to a place close to my husband and I’s heart. In the high Peruvian jungle is where my husband and I got engaged, had a shamanic wedding, found magic, and true happiness. Even after 5+ years, Tierra Mitica will always be a place close to our hearts. If it wasn’t for that magical place, we wouldn’t be together today and our son would have never been born. That experience became the foundation for my jungle theme.

After exploring various jungle themes, I settled on a blend of lush foliage, playful animals, pretty neutral selections, with some punches of color. This theme resonated with me because it offered a balance of soothing natural elements, but still evolking stimulating visual appeal.

I carefully curated a color palette that reflected the happy, sunny days in the jungle. Shades of tan and grey formed the backdrop, while pops of yellow, greens and blues, added vibrancy and depth. These colors would later flow seamlessly throughout the nursery.

One of the highlights of my nursery design were the wall decals I purchased from West Coast Walls on the Canadian Etsy shop. I opted for stick on decals on half the wall above a painted wainscotting as the focal point, featuring a handmade Etsy felt mobile, and a friendly Lion’s head peeking out. It was $80 CAD, so I opted for only half of the feature wall to keep the cost down. The felt mobile was from Etsy as well and was absolutely adorable!. There are so many different colours to choose from and can tie any room together. And handmade for $60 CAd, it’s a no brainer! There are mobiles on Amazon from China for that price.

Choosing furniture and accessories was a delightful part of the process, especially because they were pieces that were going to be so well used in the years to come. I picked a sturdy, modern crib from Wayfair for only $300, complemented by a Teddy fabric cozy rocker for bedtime stories. Animal-shaped shelves and playful mobiles added a whimsical touch, while soft rugs mimicked the forest floor.

Incorporating Personal Touches: To make the nursery feel truly special, I added personal touches throughout. Family photos in rustic frames, handmade animal plushies, and a custom name sign above the crib added warmth and a sense of belonging to the space.

Ensuring Safety and Functionality: Safety and functionality were paramount in my design. I secured furniture to prevent tip-overs, chose non-toxic paints and materials, and created a well-organized layout for easy access to essentials. Every element was designed with my baby's comfort and safety in mind.

Completing the Jungle Haven: As the final touches fell into place—a gentle glow from jungle-themed nightlights, a cozy reading nook with nature-inspired books, and a dreamy canopy over the crib—I stepped back to admire my jungle haven. It was more than just a nursery; it was a reflection of love, creativity, and anticipation.

Conclusion: Designing a jungle theme nursery was a labor of love and creativity. From the initial spark of inspiration to the final magical touches, every decision was made with care and joy. I hope this blog inspires fellow parents and caregivers to embark on their own design adventures, creating unique and enchanting spaces for their little ones to thrive. Until next time, happy decorating!
